Manifesto Against Islam

This has just come in via Stop the ACLU. Published today in the Jyllands-Posten from 12 brave intellectuals:

MANIFESTO: Together facing the new totalitarianism After having overcome fascism, Nazism, and Stalinism, the world now faces a new totalitarian global threat: Islamism.

We, writers, journalists, intellectuals, call for resistance to religious totalitarianism and for the promotion of freedom, equal opportunity and secular values for all.

The recent events, which occurred after the publication of drawings of Muhammed in European newspapers, have revealed the necessity of the struggle for these universal values. This struggle will not be won by arms, but in the ideological field. It is not a clash of civilisations nor an antagonism of West and East that we are witnessing, but a global struggle that confronts democrats and theocrats.

Like all totalitarianisms, Islamism is nurtured by fears and frustrations. The hate preachers bet on these feelings in order to form battalions destined to impose a liberticidal and unegalitarian world. But we clearly and firmly state: nothing, not even despair, justifies the choice of obscurantism, totalitarianism and hatred. Islamism is a reactionary ideology which kills equality, freedom and secularism wherever it is present. Its success can only lead to a world of domination: man’s domination of woman, the Islamists’ domination of all the others. To counter this, we must assure universal rights to oppressed or discriminated people.

We reject cultural relativism, which consists in accepting that men and women of Muslim culture should be deprived of the right to equality, freedom and secular values in the name of respect for cultures and traditions. We refuse to renounce our critical spirit out of fear of being accused of “Islamophobia”, an unfortunate concept which confuses criticism of Islam as a religion with stigmatisation of its believers.

We plead for the universality of freedom of expression, so that a critical spirit may be exercised on all continents, against all abuses and all dogmas.

We appeal to democrats and free spirits of all countries that our century should be one of Enlightenment, not of obscurantism.

Solidarity. The 12 people who wrote and signed this document know very well the risk they take. We need to send a clear message that they don’t stand alone.Â

I don’t agree with every word of this manifesto. I do believe we are in the midst of a clash of civilizations and I don’t believe we will be able to have a respectful dialogue. This enemy has shown themselves to not be reasonable and you can’t reason with unreasonable people. They have also shown a determination to destroy western civilization and to dominate the world. That being said, I do believe this is a step in the right direction. We must stand up to them.

Attention New Yorkers: rally for solidarity with Denmark this Friday from noon to one.Address: Outside the Danish Consulate at One Dag Hammarskjold Plaza, 885 Second Avenue.

Just Call Me a Soothsayer

A commenter calling himself ‘advisor’ took exception to one of my posts about the movie Valley of Wolves.

Advisor (whose link doesn’t go to a blog) says that I have obviously not seen the movie (which I haven’t). He says that ….

Besides, when hollywood shows every muslim as terrorist, every latin as drugger and every japan as yakuza, everybody knows this is not true. Smilarly, everybody can see that this movie is not anti-semitist.

When I first read that I thought, ‘No, Hollywood is much too politically correct these days to show anyone in any stereotypical way (with a few exceptions).’

But after thinking about it a minute I thought a history lesson might be in order. You see the map below. That’s the United States. The blue areas are the people you see on TV and in movies. They are the ones that carry on and worry about political correctness and that people in France might not like us. The blues are the ones who complain about guns and hunting.

The red areas are the rest of us. Middle America. Fly Over Country. It’s a big country and an awful lot of people live in the red areas. The reds are the ones that have a lot of guns and know how to hunt well. You don’t hear a lot from us. Yet.

If you want an education watch the History Channel and pay particular attention to the battle of Iwo Jima and the battle for Omaha Beach. Go downtown in any American town on a Saturday night and make note of all the punks and fat boys standing around on the street corner’s, and go to any college and count all the pink-fingered mama’s boys with a backpack full of books and then watch the first half of Full Metal Jacket and never forget the American military still knows how to turn them all into soldiers. Keep it up and these are the people who will be coming to get you.

Once America decides to participate in your jihad there won’t be enough virgins to go around and the word martyr will stick in your throat.

Valley of Wolves

From News Telegraph (U.K.). Tony Paterson in Berlin reports, Outcry in Germany as anti-Semitic film sells out

A virulently anti-Semitic film about the Iraq war has provoked a storm of protest in Germany after it sold out to cheering audiences from the country’s 2.5 million-strong Turkish community.

Valley of the Wolves, by the Turkish director Serdan Akar, shows crazed American GIs massacring innocent guests at a wedding party and scenes in which a Jewish surgeon removes organs from Iraqi prisoners in a style reminiscent of the Nazi death camp doctor Joseph Mengele.

It seriously offends me to have our Soldiers portrayed in this way. To portray Jews as in a ’style reminiscent of the Nazi …’ is outrageous.

As offended as I am about this. I will not kill anyone over it.

The problem is, does it incite the Muslim viewers to kill?

Bavaria’s interior minister admitted last week that he had dispatched intelligence service agents to cinemas showing the film to “gauge” audience reaction and identify potential radicals.

Good. He should be doing this. The current environment is much too volatile to not take this seriously.

Edmund Stoiber, the state’s conservative prime minister, has appealed to cinema operators to remove what he described as “this racist and anti-Western hate film” from their programmes.

Also, good.

The £6 million film, the most expensive Turkish production ever made, had already proved a box office hit in Turkey, where it first opened last month at a gala attended by the wife of the country’s prime minister.

The wife of the Turkish Prime Minister attending the gala grand opening serves to legitimize the film. I thought Turkey is supposed to be an ally.

The production went on general release in Germany a fortnight ago and has had full houses ever since. More than 130,000 people, most of them young Muslims, saw the film in the first five days of its opening. At a packed cinema in a largely Turkish immigrant district of Berlin last week, Valley of the Wolves was being watched almost exclusively by young Turkish men. They clapped furiously when the Turkish hero of the film was shown blowing up a building occupied by the United States military commander in northern Iraq.

In the closing sequence, the hero is shown plunging a dagger into the heart of a US commander called Sam, played by Billy Zane. The audience responded by standing up and chanting “Allah is great!”

Inciting already stirred up mass hysteria and determination to extinguish the West.

Afterwards, an 18-year-old member of the audience said: “The Americans always behave like this. They slaughtered the Red Indians and killed thousands in Vietnam.

“I was not shocked by the film, I see this on the news every day.”

Get it??

The nature of the film and the enthusiastic reception given to it by young Muslims, has both shocked and polarized politicians and community leaders.

Bernd Neumann, the culture minister in Chancellor Angela Merkel’s government complained last week that the reaction to the film “raises serious questions about the values of our society and our ability to instill them”.

Kenan Kolat, the head of Germany’s Turkish community, insisted that a ban on the film would make matters worse. “If it is withdrawn, it will raise levels of identification with the film,” he said. “A democracy must be able to endure films that it doesn’t approve of.”

Alin Sahin, the film’s distributor in Germany, argued: “When a cartoonist insults two billion Muslims it is considered freedom of opinion, but when an action film takes on the Americans it is considered demagoguery. Something is wrong.”

But everyone is walking on egg shells to keep from upsetting the Muslim community. The newspapers and television media have not shown the cartoons in order to not offend. So you are right, something is wrong.

But those arguing for a ban on Valley of the Wolves appeared to have won a partial victory last week when Cinemaxx, one of Germany’s largest cinema chains, announced that it was withdrawing the film.

Sounds like the Turkish community has already seen it anyway.

American actors Billy Zane and Gary Busey star in the film. I fully expect Hollywood will embrace this film. It’ll probably win numerous oscars as will the actors Zane and Busey.

The Cowardice of the Main Stream Media

I’ve been waiting a few days to see what the MSM was going to have to say about the Victor Prize awarded to the Jyllands-Posten newspaper for it’s defense of freedom of expression.

I have seen NOTHING on the television or in American newspapers. It’s entirely possible I’ve missed it. I work a lot and certainly don’t have time to go prowling around looking in dark corners for obscure articles.

But it seems to me, in light of the current global bru-ha-ha over the publication of these cartoons and subsequent violent reaction to them, and in light of the fact that the tiny country of Denmark has stood up to world-wide pressure to submit to the will of Islam, that this would be news worthy.

But then, putting this in the news would require courage wouldn’t it.

That might mean that the journalists or newspapers that published this article would be subjected to the death threats, bombings, throat-slashing, torture and medieval rantings of the mobs of Muslims wallowing in mass hysteria.

There has been an internet mujahedeen. Even I’ve had a lot of visitors from the Middle East (and Denmark) and I’m certainly no one of any importance to this issue.

So, where is the American Free Press? Those defenders of freedom of speech. The great courageous investigators and guardians of the truth. Where is the Fourth Estate?

Has anyone seen them? I haven’t. Perhaps they’ve tucked tail and run to the nearest dhimmitude swearing-in ceremony. Perhaps they are all secretly French ex-pats!

Copenhagen - Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten, which angered the Muslim world by publishing cartoons of Prophet Muhammad last year, has won a Danish critical journalism award for its initiative, the jury said.

Denmark’s largest daily was honoured with the Victor Prize for “having opened everyone’s eyes by showing how easy it is to introduce cracks in freedom of expression and how so-called political correctness is infiltrating what we believe to be inalienable rights,” Hans Engell, the editor of tabloid Ekstra Bladet which awards the prize, said during a prize ceremony in Copenhagen late on Thursday.

The Victor Prize, named for the late editor-in-chief of Ekstra Bladet Victor Andreasen, was handed to Jyllands-Posten’s editor Carsten Juste.

“This prize is awarded to Jyllands-Posten for its adamant defence for months of freedom of expression, which is under threat,” Engell told AFP.

Freedom of expression

“Jyllands-Posten only did its duty: exercise its right to freedom of expression,” he added.

Juste, guarded by two secret service bodyguards, noted “how fragile freedom of expression is” as he accepted the award, his newspaper reported.

The 12 drawings of Muhammad, which first appeared in Jyllands-Posten last September, have sparked violent protests in Muslim countries against Denmark especially, as well as against other European countries where the cartoons have since been reprinted.

Islam considers any image of the prophet blasphemous.

Both the newspaper and Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen have repeatedly refused to apologize for the publication of the cartoons, insisting that freedom of expression is a fundamental right in Denmark.

source: News24.com (South African); The Daily Times (Pakistan); oddly I can’t find any more articles about this other than blogger posts.Lets do a gut-check.

We have Christopher Hitchens and those who attended and spoke out at the rally he organized in support of the Danish and freedom of speech. [there are lots of links there to follow for info on that if you want.]

Mark Steyn has an article in the Chicago Times about the Ilan Halimi murder in Paris and the MSM’s willingness to keep it’s eyes closed.

There’s also ordinary Americans who volunteer to go into the war zone to teach others how to be soldiers. And soldiers and here.

Gary Sinise quietly serves.

There is not Jimmy Carter (here) (here) or Bob Simon.

So in between doing other work today, I’m going to see who I can find who has the guts. My guess is, it’s going to be ordinary Americans - us in the fly-over world of Middle America that will stand and deliver. Hopefully, I’ll prove myself wrong.

I just don’t want anyone to forget that Hollyworld, the media and the ‘intellectual elite’ do not represent the majority of Americans.

Middle America is alive, well and will not be putting turbans on, thank you very much! And, most of us carry guns.

I’ll be updating this with links throughout the day. Feel free to send links you think should be included in this little spur - of - the - moment Gut Check.

The West Keeps it’s Eyes Shut

The Chicago Times
Mark Steyn writes Needing to wake up, West just closes its eyes

In five years’ time, how many Jews will be living in France? Two years ago, a 23-year-old Paris disc jockey called Sebastien Selam was heading off to work from his parents’ apartment when he was jumped in the parking garage by his Muslim neighbor Adel. Selam’s throat was slit twice, to the point of near-decapitation; his face was ripped off with a fork; and his eyes were gouged out. Adel climbed the stairs of the apartment house dripping blood and yelling, “I have killed my Jew. I will go to heaven.”

Is that an gripping story? You’d think so. Particularly when, in the same city, on the same night, a Jewish woman was brutally murdered in the presence of her daughter by another Muslim. You’ve got the making of a mini-trend there, and the media love trends.

Yet no major French newspaper carried the story.

This month, there was another murder. Ilan Halimi, also 23, also Jewish, was found by a railway track outside Paris with burns and knife wounds all over his body. He died en route to the hospital, having been held prisoner, hooded and naked, and brutally tortured for almost three weeks by a gang that had demanded half a million dollars from his family. Can you take a wild guess at the particular identity of the gang? During the ransom phone calls, his uncle reported that they were made to listen to Ilan’s screams as he was being burned while his torturers read out verses from the Quran.

This time around, the French media did carry the story, yet every public official insisted there was no anti-Jewish element. Just one of those things. Coulda happened to anyone. And, if the gang did seem inordinately fixated on, ah, Jews, it was just because, as one police detective put it, ”Jews equal money.” In London, the Observer couldn’t even bring itself to pursue that particular angle. Its report of the murder managed to avoid any mention of the unfortunate Halimi’s, um, Jewishness. Another British paper, the Independent, did dwell on the particular, er, identity groups involved in the incident but only in the context of a protest march by Parisian Jews marred by ”radical young Jewish men” who’d attacked an ”Arab-run grocery.”

At one level, those spokesmonsieurs are right: It could happen to anyone. Even in the most civilized societies, there are depraved monsters who do terrible things. When they do, they rip apart entire families, like the Halimis and Selams. But what inflicts the real lasting damage on society as a whole is the silence and evasions of the state and the media and the broader culture.

A lot of folks are, to put it at its mildest, indifferent to Jews. In 2003, a survey by the European Commission found that 59 percent of Europeans regard Israel as the “greatest menace to world peace.” Only 59 percent? What the hell’s wrong with the rest of ‘em? Well, don’t worry: In Germany, it was 65 percent; Austria, 69 percent; the Netherlands, 74 percent. Since then, Iran has sportingly offered to solve the problem of the Israeli threat to world peace by wiping the Zionist Entity off the face of the map. But what a tragedy that those peace-loving Iranians have been provoked into launching nuclear armageddon by those pushy Jews. As Paul Oestreicher, Anglican chaplain of the University of Sussex, wrote in the Guardian the other day, “I cannot listen calmly when an Iranian president talks of wiping out Israel. Jewish fears go deep. They are not irrational. But I cannot listen calmly either when a great many citizens of Israel think and speak of Palestinians in the way a great many Germans thought and spoke about Jews when I was one of them and had to flee.”

It’s not surprising when you’re as heavily invested as the European establishment is in an absurd equivalence between a nuclear madman who thinks he’s the warm-up act for the Twelfth Imam and the fellows building the Israeli security fence that you lose all sense of proportion when it comes to your own backyard, too. “Radical young Jewish men” are no threat to “Arab-run groceries.” But radical young Muslim men are changing the realities of daily life for Jews and gays and women in Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Oslo and beyond. If you don’t care for the Yids, big deal; look out for yourself. The Jews are playing their traditional role of the canaries in history’s coal mine.

Something very remarkable is happening around the globe and, if you want the short version, a Muslim demonstrator in Toronto the other day put it very well:

”We won’t stop the protests until the world obeys Islamic law.”

Stated that baldly it sounds ridiculous. But, simply as a matter of fact, every year more and more of the world lives under Islamic law: Pakistan adopted Islamic law in 1977, Iran in 1979, Sudan in 1984. Four decades ago, Nigeria lived under English common law; now, half of it’s in the grip of sharia, and the other half’s feeling the squeeze, as the death toll from the cartoon jihad indicates. But just as telling is how swiftly the developed world has internalized an essentially Islamic perspective. In their pitiful coverage of the low-level intifada that’s been going on in France for five years, the European press has been barely any less loopy than the Middle Eastern media.

What, in the end, are all these supposedly unconnected matters from Danish cartoons to the murder of a Dutch filmmaker to gender-segregated swimming sessions in French municipal pools about? Answer: sovereignty. Islam claims universal jurisdiction and always has. The only difference is that they’re now acting upon it. The signature act of the new age was the seizure of the U.S. Embassy in Tehran: Even hostile states generally respect the convention that diplomatic missions are the sovereign territory of their respective countries. Tehran then advanced to claiming jurisdiction over the citizens of sovereign states and killing them — as it did to Salman Rushdie’s translators and publishers. Now in the cartoon jihad and other episodes, the restraints of Islamic law are being extended piecemeal to the advanced world, by intimidation and violence but also by the usual cooing promotion of a spurious multicultural “respect” by Bill Clinton, the United Church of Canada, European foreign ministers, etc.

The I’d- like- to- teach- the- world- to- sing- in- perfect- harmonee crowd have always spoken favorably of one-worldism. From the op-ed pages of Jutland newspapers to les banlieues of Paris, the Pan-Islamists are getting on with it.

Why are there so few media outlets reporting on these incidents? Emphasis are mine.

Chicago Minutemen Protest Mexican Consulate

Jake at Freedom Folks has coverage and pictures from the Minutemen Protest held today in Chicago.

Jake wrote:

You may be wondering just exactly what is it that Mexico has been doing to warrant this type of response, so glad you asked…

vote against America in the UN

oppose us in international forums

meddle in our labor law

stir things up in California

offer Mexico as a haven for murderers

meddle
in our military

attempt to win the loyalty of Mexican - Americans,

threaten to negotiate with wartime enemies,

flood our cities with dubious documents

use their consulates to meddle in internal politics

and in general, do everything possible to subvert our immigration laws

I came across this quote from Adlai Stevenson that I thought was rather apropos …

We talk a great deal about patriotism. What do we mean by patriotism in the context of our times? I venture to suggest that what we mean is a sense of national responsibility which will enable America to remain master of her power — to walk with it in serenity and wisdom, with self-respect and the respect of all mankind; a patriotism that puts country ahead of self; a patriotism which is not short, frenzied outbursts of emotion, but the tranquil and steady dedication of a lifetime. The dedication of a lifetime — these are words that are easy to utter, but this is a mighty assignment. For it is often easier to fight for principles than to live up to them.

~ Adlai Stevenson, Speech to the American Legion Convention in New York City, August 27, 1952 Quoteland

You may rightly wonder what a twenty or thirty people can accomplish. It’s ridiculous, right? Pissin’ in the wind I believe is the phrase. I mean in a city of three million people, half a million of which are illegal aliens, we’re wasting our time right?Nope, we are holding out hope to those who aren’t yet brave enough to stand with us. Every protest we’ve held has drawn more people, and at each protest we find more and more people of every race and color nodding and honking and waving.

Sure, we still get flipped off and called rude names, and sure we’re told on a regular basis to “go home” or asked if “we don’t have anything better to do.”But there will always be dumb people, people to stupid or lazy to even care about their country, what really warms the cockles of my heart is that I believe they are a minority. An annoying, obnoxious and vocal minority, but a minority all the same.

When I read that Adlai Stevenson quote I was reminded that whenever we protest we are peaceful and cheerful. It is only when those who oppose us arrive that things get ugly. Our guys and gals believe in the rule of law so it’s no great shock that that carries over into how they comport themselves in public protests. The other side promotes lawbreaking and anarchy so is it any real shock that arrests only happen when they’re around? So to those who agree that this problem is out of control, to those who are afraid they will be called racists and worse (and you will). I’m asking you to come out of the shadows. Stand with us, make this a better country. A country we can be proud of.

A final thought, though contacted the big media outlets did not cover us today. Not one reporter came out. Do you know why I think they didn’t? Because we’re boring. Minutemen don’t commit crimes, Minutemen are respectful and smart. Minutemen in other words are boring, yet if the Minutemen were as all fired dangerous as the media would have you believe why weren’t they out there covering us today. Because they knew as well as we did that there would be no counter-protesters. It’s only when the counter-protesters show up that blood flows and people start getting arrested.

What I’m getting at is if you’re afraid to come out to something like this, don’t be. I guarantee what you’ll find are people mostly just like you. People concerned about this country and will
